Character Development

Character Development

To have a fulfilled life, there are character qualities each individual needs. These qualities are also important for teamwork, leadership, and to thrive in our world. Activities in the equine environment reinforce Self-Initiative, Positive Values, Social Skills, and Positive Identity. The Search Institute has identified the “building blocks of healthy development.” Our programs incorporate activities that help develop these building blocks that young people need “to grow up healthy, caring, and responsible.”

Leadership  – Leaders help themselves and others to do the right things. They set direction, build an inspiring vision, and create something new. Leadership is about mapping out where you need to go to "win" as a team or an organization; and it is dynamic, exciting, and inspiring. For our purposes, we focus on eight primary qualities of leadership:

1.     Authentic enthusiasm
2.    Integrity
3.    Strong communication skills
4.    Loyalty

Communication  – the sharing of thoughts, feelings, messages and information with the use of writing, speaking, listening, and body language.

1.    Completeness
2.   Conciseness
3.   Consideration
4.   Concreteness

5.    Decisiveness

6.    Managerial competence

7.    Empowerment

8.    Charisma
